DEIRDRE LOUISE MACNAMARA has a passion for storytelling that goes back to childhood, creating thrilling melodramas with her dolls. (Barbie's Dream House was the scene of more crimes of passion than Mattel ever intended.)
A proud Peacock graduate of St. Peter's College (Summa Cum Laude and don't you ever forget it) She started as an actress who turned into a playwright when she found most plays just didn't showcase her enough. She began to write her own. She started with the solo show NUDE NUDE TOTALLY NUDE. It was a comedy. She would have probably stopped there but who doesn't LOVE more solo shows, right? DREAMSICLE followed. It seemed to draw bigger audiences when she wrote stuff with other people on stage, and DEFINE HAPPINESS was born.
That went well so ORDER UP followed. Most recently she penned ARCHEPELAGO, which premiered at HB Studio's Playwrights Residency program, followed by a run at the Cherry Grove Playhouse on Fire Island.
Her work includes features in Yoga Journal, Mind Body Spirit magazine, Philosopher's Imprint, medical blogs and websites, doctor-patient scripts, punch-up work, jokes, and speeches. She's just put the finishing touches on her first mystery, and is working on a novel set on Fire Island.
She lives in Upstate Manhattan with Mike, an IT miracle worker who has thrice retrieved her work after 'forgot-to-hit-save' incidents, and Fredo and BIlly, because writers need animals around. She's written alot of stuff. Mostly stuff about her, sometimes her friends.
